Rethinking public spaces: Engaging communities through inclusive play in Nice
Azur Sport Santé successfully fused digital technologies with outdoor activities potential to create a game that gets all generations moving. Thanks to their innovative approach, they succeded to transforms a public space into an interactive playground for all!
As part of the Placemaking and Sport – Innovative European Solutions project, organisations teamed up with five European cities: Copenhagen, Cottonera, Matera, Valencia, and Nice. They collaborated with ISCA and placemaking experts from BG BeActive (Bulgaria) and Gehl (Denmark) to launch pilot activities transforming public spaces with creative, innovative solutions that encourage physical activity and bring communities together.
The ultimate goal of the project is to showcase the advantages of such an approach and inspire other organisations to take on the challenge of smartly utilising gathering places to encourage outdoor activities in urban areas.
Azur Sport Santé collaborated with the city of Nice, in the vibrant French Riviera, to introduce a game that raises awareness of the benefits of physical activity and nutrition in a fun and interactive way. They painted a giant Game of the Goose, called MOVE Game (Jeu Bouge), in a public square, inviting participants to become live game pieces. The rules are simple: roll the dice, move forward, and complete challenges to progress!
Beyond simply occupying public spaces to promote physical activity, the MOVE Game (Jeu Bouge) highlights sport as a means of collaboration rather than mere competition. Some challenges in the MOVE Game (Jeu Bouge) must be completed in pairs, promoting a dual reimagining of outdoor activities: innovating where people exercise and ensuring inclusivity for all.
The motto is simple: Enjoy yourself while staying active!
